The log of book-drops, continued:

June 19, 2008:

From recommended reading to graphic novels to books about language, these placements were more by the feel of the book itself in relationship to the environment. Two days later, the graphic novel and the recommended fiction placements were no longer there-- meanwhile, "Object Lessons" remains to be discovered.

June 21, 2008:

Only two books today. The project is dwindling down. I sat for hours in the library, observing the placements, writing about the experience (check out today's entry on the blog), composing a letter to the staff of the library, to thank them for their anonymous generosity. I'll slip the letter in with the last book drop.

June 24, 2008:

Three more books: the Scarlet City (the visual departure into a quirky map of Italy), the Voice of Asia (such a funny title, as if there could be just one), a Monastic Breviary (someone's personal devotion-turned-environment for a painting). My placements from Saturday are both gone, and I feel the project approaching its close. Today's placements are located beside children and young adult non-fiction, jammed between books about detective work and reusing/recycling and juxtaposed with titles that allude to the the importance of noticing: a closer look, and found: the best... lost items.... The juxtapositions between object and location today have to do more with the nature of the project than the individual books or the paintings within.

June 28, 2008:

I couldn't find any of the old drops today-- those folks who restock the shelves are diligent. Received a note from a librarian yesterday who has a collection of two (she rescued them from the trash-- I love it!). Today's drops were dictated by their books: the original themes, the original owners, and my continual sense of play with words. Only one more drop left...
